Associate head coach Greg Paynter joined the JMU coaching staff in spring 1999.  The Dukes' recruiting coordinator and goalkeeper trainer, Paynter holds an advanced national diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.  He formerly served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Virginia Tech men's soccer team (1995-96) and also has experience coaching with the Olympic Development Program, at the high school level and at the club level for youth soccer. He was the boys' coach at Broadway (Va.) High School in 2001. Â
Paynter earned a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and sciences from Virginia Tech ('95) and a master's degree in education from JMU ('98). Â A native of Chantilly, Va., Paynter formerly taught elementary school in Rockingham County, Va. Â He and his wife, the former Amy McIlwee, live in Harrisonburg.
