Owen Smetek joined the Athletics Communications department as a Communications Assistant in July 2025.
In his role, he serves as the primary media contact for the lacrosse and women's soccer programs, and is the secondary media contact for the men's basketball program.
Before joining the staff at JMU, Owen worked as a student assistant in the Athletics Communications department, where he assisted with the day-to-day tasks of various Duke's athletics programs. Owen graduated from James Madison University in May 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and Sports Communications.
Smetek, the son of Ronald and Jennifer Smetek, is a native of Fairfax, Virginia, and has three siblings: Jack (23), Connor (18), and Alexa (16).
