Casey Steinbrecher joined the James Madison staff as an assistant coach on Jan. 29, 2010 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2014. Steinbrecher also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.

During his nine seasons with JMU, Steinbrecher has helped the program to a 173-98 overall record and an 86-48 mark in Colonial Athletic Association action. The Dukes have qualified for the CAA Championship each season and have won two conference titles.Â

JMU combined for a 22-7 record in 2018 while going 13-3 in CAA play and making a trip to the CAA Championship final for the third straight season. Four Dukes earned All-CAA and Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State honors while M’Kaela White received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Honorable Mention.
The Dukes won back-to-back CAA regular-season titles under the Steinbrechers (2015, 2016) and made the program's first appearance in the CAA Championship match since 2002 when the Dukes knocked off No. 6 Delaware in straight sets winning the tournament title for the first time since 2000.
During the 2017 season, Steinbrecher helped lead the No. 3 Dukes take down the top-seeded College of Charleston in straight sets to secure back-to-back CAA tournament championships, the first time since 2000.

Steinbrecher came to JMU from Georgetown College in Kentucky. In his role as assistant coach, Steinbrecher supervised individual training while serving as recruiting coordinator for the Tigers, a member of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). His other responsibilities included opponent scouting, game management and assisting with summer camps.

Under his leadership, he helped Georgetown to a NAIA national runner-up finish. With a 45-4 overall record, Georgetown also won its 13th Mid-South Conference Championship and 14th straight MSC Tournament Championship.

Steinbrecher was a middle hitter for the Ball State men’s club team from 1998-2002, where he earned honorable-mention all-conference accolades in 2002. He also assisted with the women’s club team in 2008, aiding them to a third-place finish at the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Club Championships.

Steinbrecher earned his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Ball State in 2002 and his masters degree in art from the University of Dallas in 2003. Casey currently resides in Harrisonburg with his wife, Lauren, and their two children, Luke and Grace.
