Chuck Amshoff will spend his second season in Harrisonburg in 2007. He joined the James Madison coaching staff for the 2006 season after a very successful 12-year stint at the club level with the Kentucky Indiana Volleyball Academy. During his tenure, he enjoyed one Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national championship, one national runner-up season, nine national qualifying campaigns, and six AAU Top Ten finishes. He coached 10 AAU All-Americans.Â
Â
As a club coach, he was responsible for organizing and managing all aspects of a competitive volleyball program including, but not limited to, recruiting, training and conditioning, monitoring academic conduct and progress, scheduling, travel and match-day management.
Â
Many athletes he coached had their sights set on playing at the collegiate level. In preparing young players for the collegiate ranks, Amshoff has developed valuable skills that will allow him to effectively identify well-prepared athletes during the recruiting phase as well as impact their upward development while playing in a JMU uniform.
Â
Additional volleyball experiences include serving as the head coach of Presentation Academy in Louisville, Ky., as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville, and as an assistant coach at Ballard High School, also in Louisville. He has routinely been a clinician on the camp circuit since 1994.
Â
Amshoff stepped to his post at Presentation Academy, a Catholic college-prep school for girls, in 2003 and guided the program to a 77-31 record though three seasons. His first squad of Toppers posted a record of 25-10 and finished second in the district and region. In 2004, he guided a team without seniors to a 27-12 ledger. The 2005 team posted a record of 25-9 and again placed second in the district and region. His tenure at Presentation was also highlighted by the selection of 16 players to the all-state team, 16 all-tournament picks and an OVC player of the year.
Â
He was an assistant coach at the University of Louisville in 2002 when the Cardinals won the Conference USA regular-season crown and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.  UL finished 28-6 that season.
Â
Amshoff was an assistant coach at Ballard in 2001. The Bruins made an impressive turnaround, winning a school-record 27 of 34 matches and winning the district title after going 8-21 the previous year.
Â
Amshoff earned a bachelor?s degree in health and human performance from Louisville.
