As the assistant director of student-athlete services, Joi Stanley advises student-athletes through the registration process each semester and provides, arranges and engages resources to help them reach maximum academic success. She was previously an academic advisor at JMU, a position for which she held many of the same responsibilities including conducting weekly academic meetings with the student athletes and providing coaches with daily and weekly updates of their student-athletes’ progress.
Prior to JMU, Stanley was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Albany from 2004 to 2007 and developed academic plans, prepared scouting reports and helped recruit prospective student-athletes. From 2007 to 2009, she took a job at Assumption College as an associate director of athletics/senior woman administrator. In this role, she helped oversee 12 of the 23 athletic programs, managed respective home contests and served on both the senior management team and the Assumption College student affairs committee.
In October of 2009, Stanley decided to leave Assumption College to become an academic and life skills advisor at Cleveland State. There, she academically advised both the men’s and women’s basketball programs as well as advised the student-athlete advisory committee, where she monitored all programming, fundraising, and community service efforts.
Stanley graduated in 2003 from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in theology. She currently resides with her husband, George Stanley II. Â
