Elena Tendero-Ortiz enters her first season as an assistant coach for women's tennis program in 2026-27.
Tendero-Ortiz joins the Dukes with six years of collegiate coaching experience, including five in the Sun Belt Conference.
Most recently, she was an assistant coach at Louisiana for three seasons (2023-26). During each season, the Ragin' Cajuns saw improvement, highlighted by the program finishing 13-6 during the 2025-26 season and earning the No. 7 seed for the Sun Belt Women's Tennis Championship. UL also went 9-10 in 2024-25 and 8-12 in 2023-24.
In her final season at Louisiana, she coached Angelique Berrat to First Team All-Sun Belt honors, which marked the first all-conference honor for the program in five years.
Tendero-Ortiz came to Louisiana from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she was an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs for the 2022-23 year. In her lone year with the Bees, she coached the women to a top-10 NAIA national ranking, reaching the national tournament. She coached two players to NAIA All-America status.
Before SCAD, she was an assistant at SBC opponent Georgia Southern (2020-22). While with the Eagles, she helped them to their first Sun Belt title and NCAA Championship appearance in school history in 2021, finishing 19-9. GS followed that up with a 12-win season for its fifth straight winning season.
Prior to coaching, Tendero-Ortiz played at Jacksonville State and Tyler Junior College for two seasons each. She helped JSU to its highest team ranking in school history (#77) and was part of TJC's 2017 NJCAA national championship while being runner-up in 2016.
A native of Alicante, Spain, Tendero-Ortiz graduated from Jacksonville State with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and wellness and later earned a master's degree in sports medicine at Georgia Southern.
