George Toliver ('73) was a standout performer in the JMU men's basketball program's early varsity seasons, and he since has had a long career as a game official in the National Basketball Association. Toliver was the Dukes' first 1,000-point scorer, and he completed his four-year JMU career with 1,287 points. He was the Dukes' most valuable player in 1971-72 and 1972-73 as a junior and senior, and JMU had a 32-17 record during that period. Toliver was with the Virginia Squires in the American Basketball Association briefly after completing his JMU career, and he was a member of JMU's atheltic administrative staff and a collegiate game offical before accepting a position with the Nation Basketball Association.
