Jabari Outtz had four three-point field goals in the final 4:44 of the first half as the Dukes pulled away for their straight win to start the season, 88-68 over East Tennessee State. JMU led only 27-25 before raising the lead to 46-29 by halftime and to 73-46 with 10:22 left.
Outtz, who was playing for the first time in 1999-2000, had three-pointers at the 4:40, 3:30 and 2:57 marks of the first half and at the halftime buzzer. He hit on each of his three-point tries during the first half and finished with 15 points and three assists in 22 minutes.
Jamar Perry led JMU with 16 points, and the Dukes had 10 players score and 11 play 10 or more minutes.
David Fanning added 12 points,
Kevan Johnson eight points and nine rebounds and
Rob Strickland six points, six rebounds and five blocked shots.
JMU shot 47.7 percent (31-65) to East Tennessee State's 37.3 percent (22-59), and the Dukes hit on 11 of 29 three-points attempts to East Tennessee State's two of three.
D.J. McDuffie had 14 points, Leo Murray 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Adrian Meeks 11 points for East Tennessee State.
