Charlie Hatter scored JMU's last two overtime field goals as the Dukes rallied for a 68-66 non-conference victory at East Tennessee State.
East Tennessee State overcame an 11-point deficit during the final three minutes of regulation and led in overtime until Hatter's three-pointer with 58.8 seconds remaining gave JMU a 66-64 edge. East Tennessee State tied the score at 66-66 with 42.6 seconds left, but Hatter scored on a short jumper with 27.2 seconds to play for the final margin.
Neither team led by more than five points until late during regulation when JMU took a 56-45 advantage. However, the for the remainder of regulation the Dukes didn't get a field goal and hit on but three of 10 free throws as East Tennessee rallied to tie the score at 59-59.
The host Buccaneers got a three-pointer from Dimeco Childress on the first overtime possession and led until Hatter's three-point field goal.
Jamar Perry scored JMU's first four overtime points and led the Dukes with 20 points.
Jabari Outtz added 14 points,
Tim Lyle 12,
Rob Strickland 10 points and eight rebounds, and Hatter nine points.
Strickland hit on five of six shots, Lyle on four of five, and Hatter on four of seven. Hatter's nine points and 24 minutes of playing time were JMU career highs for him.
JMU shot 46.8 percent (22-47) to East Tennessee State's 37.1 percent (23-62), but the Dukes were out-rebounded 44-34 and hit on but 17 of 35 free throws (48.6 percent).
The teams were tied 22-22 after a first half during which JMU shot hit on nine of 25 shots (36.0 percent) and East Tennessee State on 10 of 29 (34.5 percent).
