HARRISONBURG, Va. (11/29/2000) –
Tim Lyle scored 13 of his team-high 21 points during the second half, and JMU shot 56 percent after intermission while pulling away for a 77-66 victory over Radford.
The Dukes scored the final six points of the opening half to pull into a 27-27 tie after trailing 26-17. They then hit on 14 of 25 shots from the field during the final period. JMU led 63-47 with 6:46 left; and after seeing Radford get to within 63-58, the Dukes hit on 12 of 15 free throws during the last 5:32.
Lyle hit on eight of 15 shots and had a career-high 12 rebounds in 33 minutes. He also had two steals and an assist, and he hit on each of his four free throws. Eight of his rebounds were offensive.
JMU also got double-figure scoring from
Dwayne Braxton, who had 14 points,
Ian Caskill, who had 12, and
Mickey Dennis, who had 10. Braxton had three three-point field goals.
David Fanning added nine points and six assists,
Jerian Younger seven points and a career-high seven rebounds and
Charlie Hatter four points for the Dukes.
The victory was the Dukes' 21st straight at home.
Radford got 21 points from Jason Williams, 17 from Raymond Arrington and 13 points and 13 rebounds from Andrey Savtchenko, but the Highlanders shot only 35 percent (21-60).
JMU shot 43.6 percent (24-55) and had a 43-33 rebounding edge. The Dukes committed 16 turnovers to Radford's 11 but hit on 23 of 28 free throws.
