BOSTON, Mass. (12/21/2000) – Paul Seymour scored 19 points and Jason Grochowalski 17 off the bench as Boston University tied a JMU-opponent season high for three-point field goals and beat the Dukes 83-72. Seymour had four three-pointers and Grochowalski two for the host Terriers, who hit on 10 of 22 three-point tries (45.5 percent).
Boston University trailed 39-38 at halftime after surviving a 15-0 JMU scoring run late during the first period, and the Terriers outscored JMU 45-33 during the final period. Boston University never trailed after going in front 45-43 on Seymour's two-point jumper with 14:49 left, and the Terriers sealed the win by hitting on 14 of 16 free throw tries during the final 2:12 after JMU got to within 70-66.
Boston University had led 67-59 with 5:14 left, and Terriers' final lead was their largest of the game.
JMU trailed 27-18 with 7:21 left in the first half but scored 15 straight points to go in front 33-27 with 3:17 left in the half and led 39-33 at the 1:49 mark.
Dwayne Braxton had two of his four first-half three-pointers during JMU's 15-0 burst, and JMU had five three-pointers overall during a four-minute period late during the first half.
Mickey Dennis and
David Fanning also had three-pointers during the burst that took JMU from the 27-18 deficit to its 39-33 lead.
Braxton led JMU with a career-high-tying 20 points, and Fanning had 17 points and
Ian Caskill 10 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Dukes. Fanning had four three-point field goals.
JMU shot 38.3 percent (23-60) and had a season-high nine three-point field goals in 22 attempts (40.9 percent). The Dukes hit on seven of 10 three-point field goal attempts during the first half but connected on only two of 12 tries during the second half.
Seymour hit on seven of 15 shots, including four of eight tries from three-point range for Boston University. He also had seven rebounds. Grochowalski hit on six of 11 shots, including two of three from three-point range.
