WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/24/2001) – American scored the game's first eight points and wasn't seriously challenged the rest of the way in a 63-48 victory.
After leading 8-0 less than four minutes in the game, the Eagles went on to a 24-7 advantage by the 6:25 mark of the first half and to a 28-14 margin at halftime. American then scored the first four points of the second half, and JMU never got as close as the halftime difference again.
JMU shot a season-low 29.6 percent (16-54) from the field. The Dukes hit on only three of 19 first-half field goal tries (15.8 percent) and had 11 turnovers before halftime. They finished with 16 turnovers.
Chris Williams with 15 points was JMU's only double-figure scorer. He also had three steals while
Pat Mitchell had nine points and five rebounds off the bench.
American got 18 points from Vladimir Buscaglia, who had four three-pointers, and 15 points from Patrick Doctor. The Eagles, who played their final Colonial Athletic Association game, shot 43.6 percent (24-55) and had a 38-36 rebounding edge.
