David Fanning and
Chris Williams combined for 43 points, and JMU held on in the second half to break a four-game losing streak with a 64-51 victory at Towson. Caskill had 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Fanning and Williams each had 14 points.
The Dukes led 35-21 at halftime and held on despite shooting only 36 percent (9-25) during the second half. Towson got to within nine points four times during the final half but never was closer.
The Tigers last were within nine at 60-51 with 2:07 left, but Caskill and Fanning each hit on two free throws and Towson didn't score again.
Seven JMU players scored during the first half; JMU shot 48 percent (16-33) during the period; and the Dukes held Towson to a JMU-season-opponent-low 21 points during the opening half. Caskill had nine first-half points and Williams eight.
Fanning had 11 second-half points, and the JMU lead remained from nine to 17 points throughout the period.
JMU twice had 14-point margins during the first half, and Williams' three-pointer 28 seconds into the second half gave the Dukes their largest advantage at 38-21.
Caskill hit on six of nine shots, Williams on six of 10 and Fanning on four of eight. Fanning hit on two of three attempts from three-point range and had a team-high four assists.
JMU committed a season-low eight turnovers, and Towson had a JMU-opponent-season-high 22 turnovers.
The Dukes shot 43 percent (25-58) and Towson 40 percent (19-48).
JMU's win was its sixth straight against Towson and gave the Dukes a 14-2 lead in games with the Tigers.
