HARRISONBURG, Va. (1/14/2004) – Old Dominion's frontline of Alex Loughton, John Waller and Arnaud Dahi combined for 58 points and 21 rebounds as the Monarchs stayed unbeaten in the Colonial Athletic Association with an 81-60 victory.
The trio's 68 percent (21-31) shooting helped Old Dominion shoot a season-best 53 percent (29-54) overall, and the Monarchs were equally as accurate from three-point range, hitting on eight of 15 attempts.
Old Dominion led 43-37 at halftime and wasn't seriously challenged in posting its seventh straight win after starting the second half with an 11-4 scoring run.
Loughton had game highs of 26 points and eight rebounds, and Waller connected on four of six three-point tries and had 18 points and six rebounds. Dahi hit on all six of his shots, half of which came during the early second-half outburst that gave the Monarchs control. He also had seven rebounds.
JMU maintained contact throughout the first half. A 7-0 Monarch run, capped by a Loughton free throw at 5:50, gave the visitors their largest lead of the half at 31-21. However, the Dukes cut the margin to 39-36 on a three-pointer by
Dwayne Broyles before trailing by six points at halftime.
Old Dominion had a 40-27 rebounding advantage overall, and the Monarchs shot 57 percent (16-28) during the second half. JMU shot only 36 percent (23-64) overall and but 20 percent (4-20) from three-point range.
Broyles led JMU with 19 points, and
Chris Cathlin and
Ray Barbosa each added 13. Cathlin and
David Cooper shared team-high rebounding honors with five. Cathlin hit on six of 10 shots in 25 minutes off the bench.
