DUKES FALL 75-40 AT DELAWARE IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

NEWARK, Del. (1/15/05) – Harding Nana and Rulon Washington combined for 24 points as Delaware took a big halftime lead, and the host Blue Hens went on to beat James Madison 75-40 in men's Colonial Athletic Association basketball Saturday.
Delaware scored the game's first seven points and led 40-18 by halftime. Nana had 13 points and six rebounds and Washington 11 points during the opening period, and Delaware shot 66.7 percent from the field during the final half to keep control of the contest.
Washington finished with a career-high 20 points, hitting on seven of nine shots overall and six of eight attempts from three-point range. Nana had 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and posted his eighth straight scoring-rebounding “double-double” and his 11th in the Hens' last 12 games. The 6-foot-8 junior forward also had two three-point field goals and blocked three shots.
Delaware shot a JMU-opponent season-high 58.3 percent (28-48) overall and hit on 12 of 18 shots during the final half. The Hens connected on 10 of 17 three-point tries overall (58.8 percent) and five of eight (62.5 percent) during the final half.
JMU shot 26.9 percent (14-52) and was out-rebounded 38-24. The Dukes committed 20 turnovers and forced Delaware into 24.
Junior guard Ray Barbosa (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) was JMU's lone double-figure scorer with 16 points. He had four three-point field goals and 14 points during the opening half.
Junior forward Jomo Belfor (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) added nine points for the Dukes, and sophomore guard Chris Clarke (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) had a career-high five assists.
Delaware improved to 7-9 overall and 4-1 in the CAA with its third straight victory while JMU fell to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the CAA.
JMU returns to action Wednesday (Jan. 19) in a 7 p.m. at Towson.
