HARRISONBURG, Va. (3/20/05) – The Wagner Seahawks flew out to a 9-0 lead after four innings and glided in for an 11-5 victory against host James Madison in non-conference college baseball Sunday afternoon at Long Field/Mauck Stadium.

The Seahawks salvaged the final game of the three-game series and improved to 5-8. JMU had a three-game win streak halted and dipped to 5-11.

Wagner's 17-hit attack was paced by sophomore left fielder Matt Mastrianni (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central) and junior third baseman Gene Ronkiewicz (Rahway, N.J./Rahway). Mastrianni went 3-for-6 with three RBI and scored two runs. Ronkiewicz also drove in three runs with a 2-for-5 afternoon. Both players had doubles among their hits. Sophomore right fielder Ed Sodul (Willington, N.J./Wallington) was 3-for-5 with one RBI and made a big catch of a low liner with the bases loaded in the JMU eighth inning.

Junior Michael D'Angelis (Paramus, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) picked up the pitching win with six innings of shutout work. He scattered six hits, walked two and struck out five.

Junior second baseman Michael Cowgill (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) went 3-for-3 to have the top day at the plate for the Dukes. Freshman left fielder Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) hit his second homer in two days and third of the season as part of a 2-for-5 outing.

Junior third baseman Nate Schill (Audubon, N.J./Audubon), sophomore shortstop Davis Stoneburner (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin), and junior catcher Matt Sluder (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) each had two hits for JMU.

A pair of JMU starting pitchers came off the injured list to make their first appearances of the season as senior Brian Leatherwood (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and junior Greg Nesbitt (Drumore, Pa./Solanco) made trips to the mound. Nesbitt worked two innings, giving up one run on four hits while fanning three. Leatherwood allowed only one hit and struck out three in his two innings.

The Dukes will continue their longest homestand of the season with Tuesday and Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. dates with the Bobcats of Ohio University and the Mid-American Conference.
