PHILADELPHIA, April 30, 2005 – James Madison junior Nelly Anderson (Charlotte, N.C./Cordillera Academy) placed seventh among collegians and eighth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays, which concluded Saturday at Franklin Field.
Anderson was clocked in 10 minutes, 40.94 seconds. The race was won by Briana Shook, a 2004 Toledo graduate and the 2003 USA steeplechase champion. The top collegiate finisher was Anna Hay of North Carolina in 10:31.35.
JMU's distance medley relay placed 11th in 12:08.03. Team members were senior Cindy Dunham (Warren, Pa./Warren), sophomore Rachel Giannascoli (Havertown, Pa./Haverford), senior Sarah Kirtland (Herndon, Va./Oakland) and junior Shannon Saunders (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest).
The Dukes' 4x800 meter relay finished 11th in its section and 19th overall in 9:26.09. The relay was comprised of Giannascoli, Kirtland, Anderson and freshman Jamie Taggert (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn)
JMU's 4x200 meter relay placed sixth in its heat and 28th overall in 1:43.65. Team members were Kirtland, freshman Marisa Biggins (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge), sophomore Michelle Tyree (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) and junior Casey Rascoe (Richmond, Va./Mills E./Godwin).
Sophomore Adrienne Mayo (Reston, Va./South Lakes) finished 19th in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 5 3/4 inches.
