DUKES RIP RADFORD FOR 16-6 BASEBALL WIN
RADFORD, Va., April 6, 2005 – Sophomore Davis Stoneburner (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) had a career-high four hits, and freshman pitcher Ryan Reid (Portland, Maine/Deering) struck out a career-best nine in James Madison's 16-6 drubbing of Radford Wednesday afternoon in non-conference college baseball at Dedmon Center Park.
The Dukes, 10-17, rapped out 17 hits and took advantage of six Radford errors to win their second in a row. The Highlanders slipped to 7-20.
Reid benefited from a 4-0 lead when he took the mound for his sixth start of the season. The right-hander went on to allow six runs, five earned, on six hits and a walk in six innings. He evened his record to 2-2.
Stoneburner, who had a pair of doubles and two singles, drove in two runs, as did five other Dukes. Sophomore Rob Altieri (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic), sophomore designated hitter Dan Santobianco (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) and freshman center fielder Kellen Kulbacki (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) each hit two-run homers. Altieri connected for his first of the season. Santobianco hit his second of the year, going deep in back-to-back games. Kulbacki hit his fourth of the season.
Junior first baseman Matt Bristow (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) doubled in a pair of runs in the first to account for his two RBI. Junior third baseman Nate Schill (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) started the day's scoring with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and added an RBI single later in the game.
All of the Highlanders' runs came on homers. Second baseman Alan Ashworth hit a solo shot in the first and added a three-run blast in the fifth. Right fielder Jonathan Spears launched a two-run homer in the fourth.
Stoneburner had eight three-hit games in his career before setting the new standard on Wednesday. Reid has twice struck out eight batters in a game. Senior Sean Loso (Harrisonburg, Va./Turner Ashby) also reached a career high, scoring four times in a single game. |
