U.S. ARCHERY TOURNAMENT COMPLETES DAY TWO

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga., May 21, 2005 –- The second day of competition at the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships was held Saturday on the campus of Georgia College & State University.

Some 171 archers took part in Saturday's round, when competitors shot 18 arrows at each distance of 50 and 30 meters to complete the 144-arrow competition, known as a FITA (pronounced FEET-ah).

Results from this FITA have three major implications. First, the top three men's and women's finishers in both the recurve (Olympic) and compound bow disciplines will be named to the U.S. team for the World University Games, scheduled for August 11-21 in Izmir, Turkey. Second, the FITA results will be combined with the U.S. Indoor Championships results to determine those selected for the 2005 All-America Team. Finally, scores from the FITA will be used for seeding for Sunday's (May 22) individual elimination rounds.

JMU freshmen Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) and Jedd Greshock (Shenandoah, Pa./Shenandoah Valley) finished one-two in the men's compound FITA to earn spots on the World University Games team.
