HARRISONBURG, Va., Dec. 5, 2007 ? Senior guard Abdulai Jalloh (District Heights, Md./National Christian Academy) had a game-high 23 points and senior forward Terrance Carter (District Heights, Md./Largo) 20 to lead James Madison past Longwood 84-52 in non-conference men's basketball Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center.
Jalloh had 14 points and Carter 10 during the opening half when JMU took a 46-26 lead, and the Dukes stayed in control for their fourth-straight victory and sixth in seven games overall this season. JMU improved to 3-0 at home and continued its best overall start since 1986-87 when the Dukes opened 10-1.
The four-game winning streak is the first since December of 2002 for JMU, which completed the pre-semester examination portion of its schedule with Wednesday's contest.
The loss was the seventh straight for Longwood, which fell to 2-8.
Jalloh hit on eight of 12 shots from the field, including four of six three-point tries, while registering a season scoring high. He played 27 minutes and also was credited with five rebounds and four steals.
Cater hit on seven of 12 shots, including a three-point try, in 26 minutes and was among three Dukes with eight rebounds.
The duo's efforts gave JMU two 20-point scorers in a game for the first time since last season's JMU opener at Wake Forest, and Carter had his third 20-point outing of the season.
Longwood got the first points of Wednesday's game, but JMU was in front 12-2 by the 15:10 mark of the opening half, 40-18 at the 5:44 mark and 44-21 with 3:24 left in the period.
