DAVIDSON, N.C., Sept. 1, 2007 ? Four players recorded double-digit kills in a balanced attack for the University of Connecticut in a 3-1 win over James Madison University in women's volleyball action at the Mizuno Wildcat Classic at Davidson College.
Connecticut improved to 4-0 while winning by game scores of 30-19, 30-22, 22-30, and 30-13. JMU fell to 1-3 and lost its third in a row.
Sophomore Kate Seabaugh (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) led four Huskies with at least 11 kills, recording 13 kills, three aces, and seven digs. Senior Sade Chambers (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) had 12 kills while hitting a team-high .476. Senior Gina Heiderman (Niles, Ill.) had 11 kills while hitting .421 with four blocks. Freshman Rebecca Murray (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) pounded 11 kills with five digs and four blocks. Sophomore Bridget Denson-Dorman (Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins) tallied 48 assists, nine digs, and four blocks. Jessica Isaac recorded 24 digs.
JMU was led by sophomore Kaitlin McFaddin (Natural Bridge Station, Va./Rockbridge) with 11 kills. Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had nine kills and 11 digs. Senior Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) had 18 digs to pull within four of the JMU career record of 1,570 held by Lindsay Collingwood (1996-99).
The teams alternated points for much of the early part of the first game. With UConn leading 11-10, the Huskies reeled off an 8-0 run to take command. Chambers had five kills while Murray added four in the game.
Game two saw the Dukes put together a 5-0 run to take a 16-14 lead. However, UConn came right back with a 10-1 spurt for a 24-17 lead. JMU fought back to 25-22 before the Huskies scored the final five points for the 30-22 win.
In the third game, JMU put together a 9-0 run after a 7-7 tie to take a 16-7 advantage. UConn got no closer than five the rest of the way. Three Dukes had three kills each in the game, including McFaddin, senior Allyson Halls (Columb
