COLLEGE PARK, Md., Sept. 7, 2007 ? Six different players had at least five kills and the University of Maryland hit .275 as a team in a 3-0 volleyball sweep of James Madison University on Friday evening in the Hilton Garden Inn Greenbelt Invitational at Maryland's Comcast Pavilion.

Maryland improved to 6-1 overall while winning by game scores of 30-27, 30-17, and 30-24. JMU fell to 2-4 overall and lost for the fourth time in its last five matches. The Dukes hit just .017 as a team in the match.

Junior Maggie Schmelzle (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) and senior Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) each had eight kills for the Terrapins while four others had five apiece. Schmelzle hit .438 and had eight digs. Gillming had 22 digs. Freshman Rachel Profit (Washington, D.C./Maret School) and sophomore Hayley Hanson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) split the setting duties with 17 and 13 assists respectively. Redshirt junior Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va./James Madison) had six blocks while senior Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Riverwood) added five.

Senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had nine kills for the Dukes along with two blocks. Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) led JMU with 11 total points on seven kills, an ace, and four blocks. Junior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) had 23 assists and senior libero Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) added 16 digs.

JMU kept things tight in match one and actually led 27-25 before the Terps reeld off five unanswered points following a timeout. Maryland breezed through the second game after jumping out to an 18-6 lead. The Dukes kept it tight at 16-15 in the third game before a 7-2 run helped the Terps pull away.

JMU will take on Temple in the invitational on Saturday at 1 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. match against New Hampshire.
