RADFORD, Va., Sept. 25, 2007 ? Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and junior Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) each posted double-doubles to lead James Madison University to a 3-1 women's volleyball victory over Radford University on Tuesday night at the Dedmon Center.
JMU (9-5) defeated Radford (4-12) by game scores of 30-22, 30-23, 28-30, and 30-24. JMU won its third match in a row and won for the seventh time in its last eight matches. The victory was also the 125th at JMU for head coach Disa Garner, who improved to 125-84 in eight seasons with the Dukes.
Callahan had by far the best performance of her young career with a JMU season-high 23 kills and a season-best .526 attack percentage with just three errors on 38 attempts. It was the first time a JMU player reached 20 kills since current senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) reached the mark on Sept. 29 of last season. Callahan also had 12 digs to record her second career double-double. Her previous season highs were 15 kills and 11 digs. She added two service aces to give her a total of 25 points in the match.
Miles had a season-high 61 assists for an average of 15.25 assists per game. It was the first time this season and the seventh time in her career that she topped the 60 assists mark. Miles also matched her season high with 13 digs to post her third double-double of the season. She added two kills, two blocks, and a service ace.
JMU had four players with at least 15 kills for the first time since Sept. 11, 2005. In addition to Callahan, Halls tallied 17 kills, three aces, and four blocks for 22 total points. Her four block assists moved her into ninth on the career list with 249, passing Taryn Kirk's (1996-99) 247. Junior Michelle Johnson (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) had 16 kills on .429 hitting. Sophomore Kaitlin McFaddin (Natural Bridge Station, Va./Rockbridge) collected 15 kills and three blocks. Senior Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison), the reigning CAA Co-Player of the Week, had 26 digs.
