HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 28, 2007 ? James Madison University hit .302 as a team and junior setter Lauren Miles (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Prep) amassed 45 assists in a 3-0 win over Towson University in a Colonial Athletic Association women's volleyball match on Friday evening in Sinclair Gymnasium.
JMU (10-5, 2-0 CAA) defeated TU (4-14, 0-2 CAA) by game scores of 30-26, 30-24, and 30-18. JMU won for the eighth time in its last nine matches. The Dukes improved to 14-12 against the Tigers.
Miles had 45 assists, seven digs, and four blocks in three games for the Dukes. She fed a well-balanced attack for JMU that saw three players in double-figure kills and two others with seven. Sophomore Kaitlin McFaddin (Natural Bridge Station, Va./Rockbridge) had a team-high 14 kills and hit .367. Senior Allyson Halls (Columbus, Ohio/Olentangy) had 13 kills, four digs, and six block assists. She moved into eighth on the career block assists chart with 255, passing Beth Tyson's (1994-97) 254. Halls also reached the top 10 in total blocks with 303, passing Taryn Kirk (1997-99) with 300. Freshman Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) had 11 kills and eight digs for the Dukes. Senior libero Jena Pierson (San Antonio, Texas/James Madison) had 18 digs.
Towson's offense was led by freshman Taylor Hawkins (Lafayette, La./Lafayette) with nine kills. Junior Maddie Haseltine (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall) had six kills, three aces, and four blocks. Sophomore Katee Luecke (Ottawa, Ont./Sir Wilfred Laurier) compiled 22 assists. Sophomore Missy Rohrbaugh (Railroad, Pa./Susquehannock) chipped in 14 digs.
JMU jumped out to a quick 8-1 lead in the first game and led 14-5 before Towson put together a 5-0 run to pull within four. Another 5-0 run later put the Tigers in front 20-18. TU still led 23-20 when JMU put together a 6-0 run with Pierson as service to take charge. Four Towson attack errors helped fuel the run as the Dukes won 30-26. JMU committed eight of its 13 service errors in the opener.
