WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 18, 2008 ? James Madison University improved to 7-4 on the season after recording a 169.5-117.5 win over American University and a 194-103 victory over Georgetown University in a double dual meet Friday evening at American.
The Dukes won their fourth meet in a row and continue to build on an impressive turnaround from last season's 1-8 dual meet record.
JMU got a season-best time in the 1000 freestyle from freshman Emily Konieczny (West Springfield, Mass./Granby). Konieczny finished with a time of 10:25.96 and posted a JMU season best in the race for the third consecutive meet. She had a 5:05.91 in the 500 to win both races against Georgetown and placing second against AU.
Sophomore P.J. Naber (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) won the 100 freestyle for Madison, finishing in a time of 53.53, the second-best time posted this season by a Duke. Naber also took third in the 200 freestyle and swam the third leg in the 200 yard freestyle relay to help the Dukes win that event.
The three other swimmers in the relay were sophomore Amanda Hauck (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park), junior Meghan Heil (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and freshman Layne Eidemiller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick). The team finished with a time of 1:39.63.
In the 200 backstroke the Dukes not only won the event but claimed the top three spots. Freshman Morgan McCarthy (New Castle, Del./St. Mark's) won the event in a time of 2:09.80. She was followed by senior Gailey Walters (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) in second place and sophomore Allison Gould (York, Pa./Dallastown) in third place.
The Dukes also took the three-meter diving event, as senior Jamie Coyle (Rockville, Md./Wootton) won the event with a score of 225.90.
