HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 7, 2008 – James Madison senior free safety Tony LeZotte (Augusta, Ga./Westside) Monday was named to The Sports Network's Football Championship Subdivision All-America Football Team, giving him an All-America honor through the national news service for each of his college playing seasons.
Monday's award gave LeZotte five first-team All-America recognitions for the 2007 season and was the fourth time he was named an All-America by The Sports Network. He earlier received All-America honors for his 2007 play from Associated Press, the Walter Camp Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association, and College Sporting News. He was a third-team All-America by The Sports Network as a freshman in 2004, a first-team honoree in 2005, and a second-team selection in 2006.
In addition to LeZotte's first-team award, four Dukes were named to honorable mention All-America by The Sports Network. They included senior defensive tackle John Baranowsky (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury), senior linebacker Justin Barnes (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills), junior center Scott Lemn (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville), and junior placekicker Dave Stannard (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill).
The Colonial Athletic Association defensive player of the year in 2005 and 2007, LeZotte is the only player in league history to receive All-America honors for four straight seasons. He previously had earned the distinction of being the conference's first four-time, first-team all-league honoree.
In 2007, LeZotte led JMU in tackles with 95. He had 51 solo tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and eight pass deflections.
LeZotte, who started each of JMU's 50 games from 2004-07, completed his career with 416 tackles, No. 6 on the Dukes' all-time tackles list and first among defensive backs in program history. He took part in 144 tackles in 2004, 95 in 2005, and 82 in 2006.
JMU compiled a 37-13 record during LeZotte's four playing seasons. The Dukes won the NCAA championship during a 13-2 season in 2004 and also made playoff appearances in 2006 when they were 9-3 and in 2007 when they were 8-4. JMU was 7-4 in 2005.
Baranowsky in 2007 took part in 43 tackles, including five quarterback sacks, and was first-team All-CAA.
Barnes was second on the JMU team in tackles with 94, and he received second-team All-CAA honors.
Lemn started each JMU game at center and was first-team All-CAA after JMU averaged 33.3 points and 410.0 yards of total offense per game, including 265.1 yards rushing.
Stannard was second-team All-CAA after hitting on 12 of 14 field goal attempts and 49 of 51 conversion kicks.
