WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Jan. 9, 2008 ? Guard Nathan Mann scored 13 of his game-high 18 points during the second half, and William & Mary rallied from a 11-point deficit to beat James Madison 69-66 in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball Wednesday.
JMU raised a 30-27 halftime lead to 54-43 on junior guard Abdulai Jalloh's (District Heights, Md./National Christian Academy) three-pointer with 8:55 to play and still was up 55-45 on sophomore forward Dazzmond Thornton's (Denver, Colo./East) free throw with 8:13 remaining but got only four field goals the rest of the way.
William & Mary started a 9-0 rally on a Danny Sumner layup with 6:41 to play and went in front to stay 63-61 on two Chris Darnell free throws with 1:33 remaining. Mann then hit on two free throws at the 38- and 11-second marks and Sumner had a field goal with 18 seconds to play for the Tribe's final six points.
William & Mary with the win improved to 6-8 overall and to 2-2 in CAA play while JMU fell to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the CAA.
After Mann's final two free throws, JMU called a timeout with 10 seconds left to set up a potential game-tying three-point field goal try, but the Dukes couldn't get off a shot.
After William & Mary got to within 55-54 with its 9-0 scoring run, JMU got a steal and layup with 3:58 left by freshman guard Heiden Ratner (Las Vegas, Nev./Silverado) and a field goal by Jalloh to lead 59-54 with 3:14 left.
Jalloh, however, was charged with a technical foul after his field goal ? his fifth personal foul of the game ? and William & Mary's David Schneider hit on the two technical free throws, and Mann tied the score at 59-59 on a three-pointer with 2:47 to play.
