HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 11, 2008 ? James Madison won 15 of 16 events with seven wins coming from freshmen in their first collegiate meet in a 192-100 win over Georgetown in the women's swimming and diving opener on Saturday afternoon at Savage Natatorium.
JMU also defeated VMI 204-6 to open the season 2-0. Georgetown defeated VMI 250-7.
Three Dukes earned a pair of event wins in the meet. Junior P.J. Naber (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.58 seconds and the 100 free in 53.97 seconds. Sophomore Morgan McCarthy (New Castle, Del./St. Mark's) won both backstroke events, taking the 100 in 1:00.04 and the 200 in 2:09.40. Freshman Nicole Jotso (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) swept the diving events with a 235.20 in the one-meter and 246.22 in the three-meter.
Jotso's wins were two of seven event wins by JMU newcomers. Freshman Emily Vance (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo) claimed the 1000 free in 10:44.13. Melissa Helock (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) took the 200 free in 1:56.55.
Other freshmen wins for JMU included Samantha Holland (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) in the 100 breast in 1:09.68, Lauren Broussard (La Place, La./Mount Carmel Academy) in the 200 fly in 2:12.14, and Lauren Kranz (Clifton, Va./James Robinson) in the 500 free in 5:11.29.
In other individual events, JMU picked up a win in the 200 breaststroke by junior Beth Feather (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) in 2:28.98 as well as in the 200 individual medley by sophomore Jackie Hartman (Williamsburg, Va./Bruton) in 2:14.09.
In relay events, the “B” team of junior Amanda Hauck (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park), Holland, Gennari, and sophomore Layne Eidemiller (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) won the 200 medley relay in 1:51.55.
