RADFORD, Va, Dec. 14, 2008 ? Senior forward Kyle Swanston (Spring Hill, Fla./Hernando) scored a career-high 23 points, and James Madison overcame an 11-point, second-half deficit to beat Radford 85-81 in men's non-conference basketball Sunday.
Swanston hit on seven of 11 shots, all from three-point range, and led four JMU players in double figures in scoring as the Dukes raised their season record to 5-4. The game was JMU's first in eight days and followed a break for semester examinations.
Radford fell to 3-6 with the loss.
JMU trailed 71-60 before outscoring the host Highlanders 25-10 over the final 9:22. The Dukes got points from five players during their late burst, including nine from senior forward Juwann James (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines), who played for the first time since JMU's season-opener.
James finished with 19 points and six rebounds and hit on eight of 10 shots from the field in 27 minutes. The Dukes also got double-figure scoring from freshman forward Julius Wells (Toledo, Ohio/Libbey) and freshman guard Devon Moore (Columbus, Ohio/Northland) with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
After falling behind by 11 points, JMU got to within 71-69 by the 8:31 mark of the final half with a three-point field goal by sophomore guard Ben Louis (Melbourne
