JMU SOFTBALL INVITATIONAL COMPLETES DAY 2

HARRISONBURG, Va., March 15, 2008 ? The James Madison University/Days Inn Softball Invitational Tournament resumed on the JMU campus Saturday morning with four games. The teams completed pool play Saturday morning with JMU compiling a 3-0 record, Canisius going 2-1, Akron finishing 1-2 and Pittsburgh going 0-3.
Elimination play started during the afternoon with Pittsburgh and Akron posting wins. JMU and Canisius will play in Sunday's 11 a.m. consolation game and Akron and Pittsburgh in the 1 p.m. championship game.
Game 5: Canisius 2, Pittsburgh 1, 8 Innings
Second baseman Katie Miranto's eighth-inning RBI single lifted Canisius to a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh in Saturday's opening game.
The victory was Canisius' second in three tournament games and gave the Golden Griffins a 5-2 season record. Pittsburgh lost for the third time in three tournament games and fell to 10-11 for the year.
Canisius' Rachelle Barrientos ran for Angela Turrey, who was placed on second base to start the bottom of the eighth. The pinch runner advanced to third when left fielder Lauren Hope reached on a fielder's choice with one out and center fielder Jenny Maheu was hit by a pitch. Miranto then singled to center on a 2-2 count to give the Golden Griffins the win.
Pittsburgh got its only run from its leadoff hitter in the first, and Canisius tied the score in the third.
In the Pittsburgh first, center fielder Reba Tut
