HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., March 28, 2008 ? Sophomore Kyle Hoffman (Reading, Pa./Twin Valley) pitched eight solid innings and James Madison University turned a 4-1 deficit into a 6-4 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Hofstra University Friday afternoon at University Field.
JMU improved to 17-7 overall and 10-3 in the CAA. Hofstra dropped to 8-17 overall and 0-10 in conference.
Hoffman had an early deficit after allowing two runs in the first and two in the fourth for a 4-1 Pride lead. The Dukes fought back with one in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh to take the lead, and the final run in the eighth. Hoffman lasted eight innings, allowing the four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Freshman Kevin Munson (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) worked the ninth for his first career save.
Sophomore Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) had four singles and a walk in five plate appearances with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman McKinnon Langston (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and a walk. The pair combined for seven of JMU's 11 hits.
Junior Bobby Neelon (Needville, Texas/Needville) took the loss for Hofstra despite three of his five runs allowed being unearned. He allowed eight hits, struck out five and walked five.
Sophomore Matt Prokopowicz (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) was 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Senior David Cole (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) had two hits and scored a run.
Hofstra grabbed the early lead on a pair of RBI singles in the first inning. After a leadoff single by Cole and a sacrifice bunt, Prokopowicz singled through the right side for the first run. After a stolen base, freshman Jeff Guthridge (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) singled to right for the second run.
