HARRISONBURG, Va., April 10, 2008 ? The James Madison men's tennis team won their final non-conference tune up before the Colonial Athletic Association tournament Wednesday as they defeated the visiting Hoyas 4-3 on Thursday.
The Dukes took control of the match early as they won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point. JMU was led by the doubles pairing of senior Jesse Tarr (Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill) and sophomore Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) as they won for the seventh time in their last eight doubles matches. The won the No. 1 doubles match 8-4 over Jeffrey Schnell and Adam Gross.
Madison went on to win 8-2 in No. 2 doubles as well as 8-6 in the third doubles match.
Tarr and Smith continued their dominance of the Hoyas as they took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches respectively. Tarr defeated Georgetown's David Tillem 7-5, 7-5 and Smith beat Anthony Tan to give the Dukes the 3-0 advantage.
The Hoyas were able to rebound as they took the fourth, fifth and sixth singles match to even the score at three apiece.
