WOMEN'S LACROSSE LOSES AT DELAWARE 13-12 ON LATE BLUE HEN GOAL

NEWARK, Del., April 11, 2008 -- Delaware sophomore Emily Schaknowski scored with 1:17 left in regulation to lift the Blue Hens to a 13-12 win over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse Friday evening at Rullo Field.
Delaware won its third straight game and improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in league play. JMU's record stands at 5-7 overall and 1-2 against CAA teams.
The game was close throughout, with nine ties and six lead changes. The biggest lead by either team was two goals.
JMU was up 7-5 at halftime after outscoring Delaware 4-1 in the final 12 minutes of the first period, capped by two goals in the final 1:26 of the half.
Trailing 4-3, the Dukes started their scoring run when senior Julie Stone (Annandale, Va./Annandale) netted an unassisted goal with 11:55 on the clock. Then senior Natasha Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) passed the ball to senior Lauren Bradley (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll), whose goal at 6:34 put JMU ahead 5-4.
After a goal by Delaware senior Casey McCrudden at 4:13 tied the game at 5-5, the Dukes regained the lead on a goal by redshirt sophomore Kim Griffin (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford), assisted by Fuchs, with 1:26 remaining. Junior Jaime Dardine (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) then scored off a pass from Fuchs with just 18 seconds remaining to push JMU's lead to 7-5.
In the second period, Delaware outscored JMU 3-1 in the first 6:06 to tie the game at 8-8. Freshman Lindsey Coon scored the first Blue Hen goal. Then, after another goal by JMU's Griffin, senior Katie Muth converted two free-position shots in less than two minutes. Muth's second score at 23:54 evened the score at 8.
Griffin scored less than a minute later to put JMU back on top 9-8 with 23:15 to play.
Delaware responded by scoring three unanswered goals, one each by Muth, McCrudden and freshman Julianna Jeffers, to take an 11-9 lead at 14:41.
