WILLIAMSBURG, Va., April 20, 2008 -- The James Madison women's golf team shot a final-round 309 to retain 4th place at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships Sunday. It was the eighth top-five finish this year for the Dukes.
The tournament was held at the Golden Horseshoe Country Club in Williamsburg, Va. and featured 10 CAA teams.
Sophomore Mary Chamberlain (Dennis, Mass./Suffield Academy) shot a 78 on Sunday to maintain a tie for 13th overall. Chamberlain shot a 77s on both Friday and Saturday to finish with a 16-over-par 232 for the event.
Freshman Kelly Lynch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) followed up rounds of 75 and 79 in the first two days, with a 79 on Sunday. She finished just behind Chamberlain in 15th after carding a 233. Fellow freshman Laura Mesa (Manizales, Columbia/Colegio Granadino) finished just behind her in tie for 18th. She carded rounds of 78, 83 and a team tournament-low 74 to finish at 19-over-par.
The final two finishers for the Dukes were senior Ashley Mantha (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) who tied for 25th and freshman Catrin Gunnarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden/Sanda Gymnasiet) in a tie for 27th. Mantha carded a 238 with rounds of 81, 78 and 79, while Gunnarsson shot rounds of 79, 82 and 78 for a 239.
