BROOKLINE, Mass., May 15, 2008 ? Northeastern University broke open a one-run game with five runs in the fourth and went on to top James Madison University 10-2 with an 18-hit attack in the opener of a Colonial Athletic Association series on Thursday afternoon at Friedman Baseball Diamond.
NU improved to 25-24-1 overall and 12-15-1 in the CAA. The Huskies won their fourth straight game against the Dukes after sweeping last year's three-game set in Harrisonburg. The Huskies have won five of their last six and eight of their last 10 games overall. JMU fell to 32-17 overall and 18-9 in the CAA by falling for the sixth time in its last eight games.
Northeastern led 1-0 in the third when the Huskies plated five runs on six hits, capped by a three-run home run by senior Mike Lyon (Plainville, Mass./King Philip).
That proved to be enough support for senior starter Kris Dabrowiecki (Toronto, Ont./Ursula Franklin Academy). Dabrowiecki scattered eight hits over 6 2/3 innings with two runs allowed and seven strikeouts.
Sophomore Sheldon McDonald (Spruce Grove, Alberta/Spruce Grove Compsoite) struck out six of the final eight batters he faced in relief.
