RADFORD, Va., May 4, 2008 ? Radford University pulled away from a 6-6 tie with two in the seventh and one in the eighth and held on to defeat James Madison University 9-7 in a non-conference baseball game on Sunday afternoon at Dedmon Center Park.

RU improved to 18-26 overall while JMU dropped to 30-12. The Dukes fell to 13-5 on the road after entering the game with the eighth-best mark in the country. Both teams were playing for the first time in a week due to final exams and commencement exercises.

JMU turned a three-run deficit into a three-run lead with a six-run fourth inning. Radford evened the score with three runs in the fifth. The go-ahead run came in the seventh on JMU's fourth error of the game, the most this season by the Dukes, who entered the game with the 11^th-best fielding percentage in the country.

Sophomore Adam Hoyt (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) was the winner in relief for Radford. He improved to 4-4 after working the final 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits with three strikeouts. He combined with senior starter Eric Evans (Mobile, Ala./UMS-Wright) to retire JMU in order in five of nine innings in the game.

Redshirt senior Trevor Kaylid (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) took the loss to fall to 3-3 on the season. He allowed two runs, one earned, in 2 1/3 innings on two hits.

Three Dukes had two hits each with redshirt junior Brett Sellers (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI. Sophomore Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) drove in two runs on two hits with a triple. Junior Brett Garner (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) had two hits with a run and an RBI.

Sophomore Reggie Keen (Danville, Va./GW Danville) was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for the Highlanders. Redshirt sophomore Raphael Turner (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) had two hits, two RBIs, and a run.
