SUNSET BEACH, N.C., Sept. 21, 2008 ? The James Madison men's golf team shot a tournament-low round of 283 on Sunday to finish tied for fifth out of 18 teams in this weekend's Sea Trail Intercollegiate, hosted by Elon University in Sunset Beach, N.C.
The Dukes, who were in 16th-place after shooting a 310 on day one, rebound by shooting rounds of 292 and 283 for a three-day total of 885. Leading the way for JMU was junior Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), who finished tied for sixth overall out of 96 golfers. Meisenzahl shot rounds of 75, 73 and 68 for a total of 216.
Freshman Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) made his JMU debut, finishing in 28th with rounds of 77, 74 and 71 for a total of 222. The rookie shot the second lowest round of the tournament for Madison, with his third-round 71.
Sophomore Matt Neely (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) finished tied for 43rd and senior Tim Driver (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) finished in a tie for 51st. Neely shot rounds of 78, 75 and 72 for a total of 225, while Driver shot rounds of 80, 70 and 77 to finish at 227. Driver's Saturday round of 70 was a team tournament-low.
