BEALLSVILLE, Md., Oct. 20, 2009 - The James Madison men's golf team carded rounds of 311 and 309 to finish the weather-shortened Georgetown Intercollegiate in a tie for 11th. The event, held at the Members Course at Four Streams, was shortened from 54 holes to 36 after frost on the course forced a delay tee off on Monday.
Junior Michael Meisenzahl (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) led all JMU golfers, finishing tied for 20th. Meisenzahl carded a 75-75=150 to finish 8-over-par.
Senior Jhonny Montano (Cochabamba, Bolivia/Cochabamba Cooperative School) tied for 44th after shooting a 79-76=155, while sophomore Chris Wellde (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) carded a 78-78=156 to tie for 47th. Â Â Sophomore Mike Smith (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) tied for 58th after shooting a 79-84=163 and junior Matt Neely (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) rounded out the five-man JMU team in a tie for 61st after carding a 84-80=164.
Washington State's Hank Frame took the individual honors, carding a 68-75=143. He finished one stroke ahead of UNC Greensboro's Will Almand (71-73=144) and Detroit Mercy's David Byrne (72-72=144), who tied for second. Campbell's Mitch Gray (75-70=145) finished fourth, followed by a four-way tie for fifth between Richmond's Daniel Walker (70-76=146), Campbell's Vaita Guillaume (73-73=146), Miami's Michael Drobnick (75-71=146) and DePaul's Greg Doherty (72-74=146).
UNC Greensboro trailed Washington State by 11 strokes entering Tuesday's final round but shot a 290 to claim a 3-shot victory over the Cougars (285-304=589). Richmond (296-295=591) took third, followed by Cambell (301-291=592) in fourth and Miami (302-293=595) rounding out the top five.Â
The Dukes will play one more event in their fall schedule as they travel to Hawaii to play in the 2009 Kauai Collegiate Invitational Oct. 26-28.
