HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 24, 2009 ? Junior Lindsay Callahan (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown) and freshman Danielle Erb (Tampa, Fla./Plant) each had double-doubles as James Madison defeated Towson 3-1 in a Colonial Athletic Association volleyball match on Saturday evening in Sinclair Gymnasium.
JMU won by set scores of 25-27, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-19 to improve to 9-16 for the season and 2-7 in the CAA. TU dropped to 8-16 overall and 1-8 in the league. The Dukes went 2-0 in the CAA for the weekend, winning consecutive matches for the third time this season.
Callahan led all players with 14 kills along with 11 digs. Erb added 12 kills and 11 digs to give each double-doubles. Junior Jessica Zeroual (Ottawa, Ont./De La Salle) had 12 kills on .526 hitting. Freshman setter Megan Wiechmann (Sunland, Calif./Village Christian) posted 44 assists, five digs, and three kills. Freshman Natalie Abel (Washington, Pa./Trinity) totaled 14 digs in three sets. Freshman Haley Jacobsen (Winchester, Va./Sherando) had six blocks for the second straight night to go with five kills.
Alysha Fanning led Towson with 10 kills on .316 hitting along with seven digs and five blocks. Shelynne Hoyt added nine kills on .389 hitting and four blocks. Evan Schulz accumulated 19 assists and nine digs while Katee Luecke added 17 assists and four digs. Missy Rohrbaugh tallied 17 digs.
The opening set was tight throughout, featuring 21 ties and six lead changes. Towson earned the first set point at 24-23 but a Callahan tip kept the Dukes in it. JMU then earned set point on a kill by Wall, but Towson took the next three on a tip by Fanning, tip by Hoefer, and attack error by JMU. Both teams hit over .400 in the set as three Tigers had at least four kills. Zeroual and Callahan each had five for the Dukes while Wiechmann posted 15 assists.
Set two was also back and forth with 11 ties and six lead changes. With the teams tied at 21-21, JMU took serve on a kill by Wiechmann, prom
