MEN'S SOCCER SHUTS OUT VCU 2-0

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 7, 2009 -- James Madison junior CJ Sapong (Manassas, Va./Forest Park) scored once in each half as the Dukes beat Virginia Commonwealth 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer Wednesday evening at Sportsbackers Stadium.
JMU improved its overall record to 6-2-1 and is now 1-1-0 in CAA play. VCU, which dropped its fourth consecutive match, has a 3-5-1 record and is 0-3-0 in league action.
A free kick by junior Stefan Durr (Garmisch, Germany/Munich International) to Sapong resulted in the first score. Sapong scored on a shot to the left side of the goal in the 20th minute.
A shot by Durr in the 74th minute was stopped by VCU goalkeeper Gabriel Rodriguez but Sapong knocked the rebound into the goal.
Dukes' junior goalkeeper Ken Manahan (Fredericksburg, Va./Chancellor) stopped four shots as he recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
Rodriguez finished with six saves.
Each team took 14 shots in the match.
