HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 17, 2009 – As part of Side-Out Foundation's Dig Pink efforts, the James Madison volleyball team pitched in to help collect donations as part of the organization's Breast Cancer Awareness Rally.
Dig Pink was held throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with nearly 1,000 total collegiate and high school volleyball teams taking part in fundraising efforts. According to the foundation's website, over $600,000 has been raised to date.
JMU held its Dig Pink match on Tuesday, Oct. 13 against Norfolk State. Both teams wore pink jerseys in the match, the contest was played with pink volleyballs, and all game personnel and coaches dressed in pink. The Dukes continued their efforts throughout the month of October, collecting donations through a raffle drawing and conducting other fundraisers. The team was able to raise approximately $1,500 through its efforts, all going directly to the fight against breast cancer.
