BRYANT BREEZES TO 22-8 WIN OVER JMU

NEW MARKET, Va., March 14, 2009 ? Bryant scored six runs in the third and added seven in the fifth to break away to a 22-8 win over James Madison on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon at Rebel Park.
Bryant improved to 8-3 while JMU dropped to 10-6. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was pushed to a doubleheader on Sunday by the rain.
Tim Norton led Bryant's 23-hit attack going 4-for-6 with two of the Bulldogs' 10 doubles. Pat McKenna was 3-for-6 with two runs. Nick Campbell was 3-for-5 with four runs and an RBI. Jordan English was 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs. Pat O'Connor had two hits and three-RBIs, including a home run.
Eric Polvani earned the win, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits in seven innings.
Freshman Josh Futter (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) took the loss in his first collegiate start for the Dukes. He allowed six runs, five earned, on five hits in two innings.
Redshirt junior Bryan Lescanec (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and his first collegiate home run. Junior Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) was 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Redshirt sophomore Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) was 3-for-5 with a solo homer. Redshirt junior Chris Johnson (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) had a home run for the Dukes, as did redshirt junior Matt Townsend (Lorton, Va./Hayfield).
Bryant loaded the bases in the first inning on a pair of leadoff walks and a hit batter. Jeff Vigurs grounded a possible double play ball to short that sophomore David Herbek (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) bobbled before getting the out at second, allowing one run to score on the fielder's choice. Vigurs stole second and both runs scored on a single by English just inside the third-base bag for a 3-0 BU lead.
