WALLACE, N.C., Mar. 24, 2009 -- The James Madison women's golf team shot a 327 on Tuesday to finish the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational in eighth place out of 12 teams. The Dukes carded rounds of 310 and 306 on Monday for a three-round total of 943.
Leading the way for JMU was sophomore Kelly Lynch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) who tied for ninth. Lynch recorded rounds of 77, 72 and 81 for a total of 230. She finished in the top 10 for the second time this year and sixth time in her career. The 72 she carded in the tournament's second round was the lowest round of her career.
Joining Lynch in the top 25 was freshman Nicole Sakamoto (Honolulu, Haw./Kalani) who finished tied for 25th after shooting a 78-78-80--236. She was followed by fellow freshman Valentina Sanmiguel (Bogota, Columbia/Gimasio La Montana), who finished tied for 38th. Sanmiguel carded a 77 in the first and followed that with rounds of 80 and 83.
Sophomores Laura Mesa (Manizales, Columbia/Colegio Granadino) and Catrin Gunnarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden/Sanda Gymnasiet) each tied for 43. Mesa recorded a 78-78-85--241 and Gunnarsson a 80-78-83--241.
Elon's Danielle Mills won the tournament's individual title, carding rounds of 72 and 68 on Monday, followed by a 76 on Tuesday for a total of 216. She was followed by East Tennessee State
