JMU SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH STETSON

DELAND, Fla., March 7, 2009 ? James Madison and Stetson split a baseball doubleheader on Saturday with the Dukes taking game one 9-5 and the Hatters following with a 15-6 triumph in game two at Melching Field.
JMU stands at 7-5 on the season after the split and has still won seven of its last nine games. SU sits at 3-9.
In the first game, JMU had three different players with three hits apiece and stole eight bases in the victory.
Junior centerfielder Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) was 3-for-6 with three steals. Redshirt junior catcher Chris Johnson (Shrewsbury, N.J./Red Bank Regional) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Sophomore McKinnon Langston (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) was 3-for-5. Redshirt junior leftfielder Matt Townsend (Lorton, Va./Hayfield) hit a two-run home run, his fourth of the season.
Sophomore James Weiner (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) earned his first career victory after throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. He allowed just one hit. Redshirt sophomore Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) earned his first save of the season with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Alex Hudak was 3-for-5 for Stetson while Jeremy Cruz drove in a pair of runs. David Burns took the loss with two runs allowed in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Stetson broke out on top with a walk and a single putting runners at the corners with no outs in the first. Nick Rickles lifted a sacrifice fly to center for the 1-0 lead.
JMU tied the score in the top of the fourth when Johnson led off with a double inside the bag at third and junior rightfielder Matt Browning (Mystic, Conn./Fitch) followed with an RBI single up the middle.
