TOWSON, Md., April 11, 2009 ? Towson University got a walk-off grand slam from left fielder Emily Gould to defeat James Madison 4-3 on Saturday.
The Dukes fell to 22-12 and 2-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the loss while Towson improved to 24-11 and 7-3.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers loaded the bases with one out on walks by catcher Meaghan Clark, center fielder Erika Stasch, and right fielder Kim Lempa before Gould sent a 1-1 offering over the center-field fence.
It was only the third hit of the game for Towson and the first by anyone other than third baseman Stef Streets.
The Dukes took an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning off Towson starter Shannon Johnston. Freshman shortstop Ashley Burnham (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) led off the inning with a single through the left side and moved to second on a Kaitlyn Wernsing (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) sacrifice bunt. Senior left fielder Jenny Clohan (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) followed with a single into short-right field to put runners on the corners. Senior catcher Julia Dominguez (Sterling, Va./Park View) plated Burnham with a groundout to the first baseman before junior center fielder Brittney Dyson (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) made it 2-0 with a single to left field, plating Clohan.
Dominguez drove in the 94th RBI of her career, leaving her just one shy of the school record, set by utility player Jenn Chavez (2005-08) last season.
Dyson made it 3-0 in the fourth capping off a two-out rally for Madison. Dominguez started the rally with a single up the middle and moved to third on a throwing error by TU catcher Meaghan Clark.
