HARRISONBURG, Va., April 29, 2009 ? Junior Alex Foltz (Mathias, W.Va./East Hardy) and redshirt sophomore Trevor Knight (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) combined for six hits and five RBIs at the top of the lineup as James Madison beat Virginia Military Institute 8-5 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday evening at Gray-Minor Stadium.
JMU improved to 28-19 overall and finished the season sweep of the Keydets after a 20-2 win two weeks earlier. VMI fell to 16-29.
Junior David Edwards (Ocala, Fla./St. Cloud) improved to 4-1 after allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in five innings. The bullpen allowed just two unearned runs in four innings with sophomore Kevin Munson (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring) going the final 1 1/3 with three strikeouts for his eighth save, one shy of the JMU season record.
Foltz went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs, and three RBIs. Knight was also 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and a steal of home. Sophomore third baseman McKinnon Langston (Tallahassee, Fla./North Florida Christian) was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Top starter Travis Smink took the loss for VMI after allowing five runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings, falling to 6-3.
Second baseman A.J. Yoder, first baseman Jordan Ballard, and shortstop Sam Roberts each had two of the Keydets' eight hits.
