PHILADELPHIA, April 5, 2009 -- James Madison redshirt junior Kim Griffin (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) scored four goals as the 20th-ranked Dukes topped Drexel 14-6 in Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field.
JMU evened its CAA record at 1-1 and improved its overall record to 5-6. Drexel, which lost its third straight game, dropped to 0-2 in conference play and 7-3 overall.
The Dukes scored the game's first three goals and never trailed. JMU was up 6-2 before Drexel's Charlotte Wood scored with one second left in the opening half to close the gap to 6-3 at intermission.
JMU then scored four straight goals to open the second period, taking a 9-3 lead with 20:40 left. Freshman Monica Zabel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt./Hebron) assisted the first two goals and scored the third for the Dukes.
The Dukes scored three times in a span of 3:11 as JMU pushed its advantage to 13-4 with 4:58 to go. Griffin scored the first two goals and redshirt sophomore Jessie Heisterman (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) netted the third.
