HARRISONBURG, Va., June 25, 2009 -- James Madison University women's basketball coach Kenny Brooks has announced the hiring of Lindsay Smith as an assistant coach.
Smith comes to JMU from Appalachian State, where she was an assistant coach for the past three years.
"I am thrilled to have Lindsay join our staff. Her enthusiasm, passion and knowledge for the game will be an asset to our program," said Brooks.
At Appalachian State, Smith was the recruiting coordinator and was in charge of developing the team's guards.
Smith also has coached both high school and AAU basketball. In 2005-06 she was an assistant coach at T. Wingate Andrews High School in High Point, N.C., and also coached the under-16 AAU elite Team Phoenix during that time.
A 2005 graduate of Appalachian State, Smith was a four-year starter and 1,000-point career scorer for the Mountaineers. She ranks 14th among ASU's all-time scorers with 1,076 career points and holds the school record for career three-pointers (177).
She was a team co-captain in 2003-04 and 2004-05 and was the team's assist leader both of those seasons.
Smith, a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., was an all-conference, all-area, all-region and All-Northwest honoree at Ledford High School. She was selected the conference Player of the Year as a senior.
Smith holds a bachelor's degree in health promotions from Appalachian State.
