WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Feb. 27, 2010 - The James Madison men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to conference-rival William and Mary at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Va. on Saturday.

After falling behind early in doubles play, the Tribe bounced back to sweep singles play on their way to improving to 11-5 and 3-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Dukes dropped to 4-4 and 0-2 respectively.

Play got off to a tight start as the teams battled in doubles play. William and Mary's Sebastian Vidal and Richard Wardell gave it an early advantage with an 8-5 win over freshman Stephen Hardy (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) and junior Yaroslav Voznenko (Kherson, Ukraine/Kherson Technical H.S.), before JMU's 38th-ranked duo of senior Mike Smith (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and Matt King (Lorton, Va./Robinson) evened things up at one apiece with a 9-7 win over Keziel Juneau and Anton Andersson. Freshman Greg Vladimirsky (Coral Gables, Fla./Broward Virtual) and sophomore Ville Maaranen (Joensuu, Finland/Joensuun lukio) scored the deciding point with a 9-8(6) win at No. 3.

Smith and King improved to 14-3 in doubles play while Vladimirsky and Maaranen upped their record to 2-1.

The Tribe came right back in singles play, sweeping all six matches to put the match away. Vladimirsky battled Juneau to a tiebreaker in set one before falling 7-6(5), 6-3 in the closest match of singles play.

JMU returns to the court on Sunday, taking on CAA-foe UNC Wilmington at 12 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
