HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 16, 2011 - Penn (5-0-0) scored on its first shot of the game and that stood up for a 1-0 win over James Madison (3-3-2) in women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex.

Senior Theresa Yankovich (Northville, Mich./Northville) scored on the Quakers' first shot of the match. Sophomore Kerry Scalora (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) sent a corner kick from the right corner into the far side of the box, where Yankovich one-timed a shot just inside the left post from six yards out.

Penn ran its win streak to five and remained un-scored upon this season. JMU has been unable to score in three consecutive matches and is 0-2-1 in that span.

The Quakers held a 15-10 shot advantage, and JMU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kate Courter (Lincoln Park, N.J./Immaculate Heart) tied her career high with 10 saves, many of which came on long-range shots by Penn.

Dukes' junior defender Elisa Davidson (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) also prevented two shots from crossing the goal line with defensive saves early in the second half. She first foiled a shot by freshman Megan York (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) in the 53rd minute, then a minute later cleared another ball off the goal line on a shot by junior Erin Beck (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury).

JMU's best scoring chance came in the 60th minute, when an attempt by sophomore Lauren Wilson (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown) hit the left post.

Penn has "been very successful on their set pieces," said JMU coach Dave Lombardo. "We just weren't able to get in behind their backs and do anything of quality in the final third of the field."

Junior goalkeeper Sarah Banks (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) started in goal for the Quakers and made three first-half saves, while senior goalkeeper Caroline Williams (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) played the second half and made one save.
